JUNE 18TH, A FATHER'S DAY TO REMEMBER
June 18th is Father's Day. How unique it will be to honor our early pioneer "Fathers and Mothers", both in England and Utah, who passed down to us the profound legacy of family. As fellow descendants of William and Emma Luke, we extend a warm invitation to all interested parties to join our family reunion to be held in Manti, Utah, USA on June 18 (Sun)-19 (Mon), 2006. This invitation is for descendents of both the Luke and Perkins families, representing several relationships going back and forward in time from William Luke (1801-1853) and Emma Perkins (1803-1865).
Reunion Purpose: To bring the extended family together for 1½ days. Get acquainted, strengthen family ties, share the family legacy, visit pioneer sites, learn about the Manchester and Manti pioneer story, have fun, be entertained, coordinate/share family history research and facilitate collaboration.
Dates: June 18, 2006 (Sunday afternoon) - June 19, 2006 (Monday)
Locations: Manti, Ephraim and Uintah Springs, Utah, USA (see schedule for venues)
Chairman: Noel Luke
A special feature of our Manti reunion will be a Reader’s Theatre that tells the unusual story of William’s (1801) odyssey from Manchester to Manti in search of an earthly Zion and of his tragic demise at the hands of a band of Indians at Uintah Springs, one of the venues we will explore (hence the reason for choosing Manti for this event). This production was written by Rosalind Crosby and includes original music (orchestral score, solos, group numbers) written by her, text from original family letters and the moving, unfolding of a heart-rending story. If you know of any details about this story that are not commonly know to family members, we would love to have you share that with us.
A second unique feature will be the placement of a headstone for William Luke (Sr.) in the Manti Cemetery. Following his death, his earthly remains were place, with two of his associates, in an unmarked grave outside the Nephi Cemetery. We are thus placing this headstone in the Manti Cemetery at around noon on Monday to honor his memory. Please consult the "Schedule/Itinerary' for exact time and place.
If you haven't registered for this event yet, it's important to do so as soon as possible to help with venue planning. Housing will be your biggest challenge. Do it now! We look forward to seeing you there!
